In plain English
AI coding assistants learned from a snapshot of the internet, so they often write code for an older version of a library. ScoutDocs fetches current documentation for the exact version in your project. It is a tool for developers who work with AI assistants.
How it works
- An AI assistant asks for documentation through MCP (a standard plug-in protocol for AI tools).
- ScoutDocs looks up the package on PyPI, npm or crates.io (the main software package registries).
- It returns docs for exactly the requested version, or a clear "not found". It never quietly swaps in another version.
- Docs are cached and labeled with their source, so repeat lookups are fast and traceable.
- It runs locally on your machine or as a hosted Cloudflare service.
What I did
I built it solo. ScoutDocs is a fork of my earlier Universal Docs MCP, carrying the same core idea plus documentation search and a hosted edition.
What I learned
Returning the right source matters more than returning a plausible answer. A small synthetic benchmark confirmed the mechanism, which gives me a clear base for measuring real-world gains next.
