In plain English

AI coding assistants learned from a snapshot of the internet, so they often write code for an older version of a library. ScoutDocs fetches current documentation for the exact version in your project. It is a tool for developers who work with AI assistants.

How it works

  1. An AI assistant asks for documentation through MCP (a standard plug-in protocol for AI tools).
  2. ScoutDocs looks up the package on PyPI, npm or crates.io (the main software package registries).
  3. It returns docs for exactly the requested version, or a clear "not found". It never quietly swaps in another version.
  4. Docs are cached and labeled with their source, so repeat lookups are fast and traceable.
  5. It runs locally on your machine or as a hosted Cloudflare service.

What I did

I built it solo. ScoutDocs is a fork of my earlier Universal Docs MCP, carrying the same core idea plus documentation search and a hosted edition.

What I learned

Returning the right source matters more than returning a plausible answer. A small synthetic benchmark confirmed the mechanism, which gives me a clear base for measuring real-world gains next.
