Finding something across a folder of documents usually means opening files one by one. MeTRA lets you pick a folder in your browser, view its files and ask questions about them in a chat. The answers come from online AI services, so it suits files you are comfortable sharing with them.

How it works

  1. Pick a folder using the browser's built-in file access (in Chrome or Edge).
  2. Browse the files in a tree view and choose the ones to discuss.
  3. Pull text out of documents, PDFs and images, using OCR (reading text from images) where needed.
  4. Ask questions in a chat that streams answers and summarizes long conversations to stay within limits.

What I did

I built it solo in React and TypeScript, connecting it to outside AI providers for the answers.

What I learned

Choosing files on your own machine is different from running the model on your own machine. Being clear about where data goes is part of the design.
